M-VAVE FM-1 patch librarian: Free browser tool for DX-7 sound transfer
Benny Sparra has released a free browser-based patch librarian for the M-VAVE FM-1, making it easier to transfer sounds from a Yamaha DX-7 to the compact FM synth. The tool streamlines patch management, allowing users to import, organise, and rename patches directly in the browser without additional software.
What the M-VAVE FM-1 patch librarian does
The patch librarian simplifies transferring DX-7 patches to the FM-1 by providing a graphical interface to manage up to four banks of 32 patches each. Users can import individual patches or full banks, rearrange positions, and edit names—features not currently available on the FM-1 hardware. This gives producers more flexibility when curating sounds for the FM-1’s DX-7 engine.
How to use it
- Open the patch librarian in any modern browser
- Connect your FM-1 via USB to your computer
- Import DX-7 SysEx files or individual patches
- Organise patches into custom banks and rename them directly in the browser
- Transfer the updated banks back to the FM-1
No DAW integration or installation is required. The tool is royalty-free for personal and commercial use.
